Witchy Scorpio lives deep beneath the surface, circling mysteriously. The Goddess of Night is extreme, singular, obsessed. She does not want to chat, she wants to make passionate love. She is driven, stopping at nothing to get her fix, churning in a gigantic supernatural whirlpool. She’s a hot-blooded kiss on the lips, fervent, vehement, chasing her prey through the dark night. The Scorpio mantra is I desire.
What is Venus in Scorpio here to teach us? How to strike a balance between power and vulnerability. This is what she most fears and desires: to be at once exposed and concealed. Under scorpionic influence, we become more compulsive as we scramble to remain in control. When we break down and let go of our need for control, we break through to a state of greater spiritual and emotional awareness. This is the paradox of the scorpion. You cannot force the journey, though the scorpion is a forceful creature.
Venus in Scorpio is just as inspiring as it is challenging. Scorpio is the sign of transformation and rebirth, but first comes the wounded heart, spiritual agony. This cycle is streaked with midnight, potent medicine for the blistered soul, gleaming phosphorescently from the cauldron. Diving to the bottom of the scorpion cove brings us to the breaking point. Blackest black gives way to light. This is the scorpion mission, to find the edge and careen into the abyss: renewal through obliteration.
Where is the gentleness, the forgiveness? Drawn to all that is morbid and aberrant, the scorpion feels more alive when there is a crisis. Her stinger can destroy all in a moment…or she can hold on to her poison, turning it into gold inside her, letting it fuel her metamorphosis.
Scorpio leads us to Sagittarius. It is Scorpio who prepares us for the centaur’s effulgent starlight. But before we enter these sparkling amethyst flames, we need to address our shit. It is time to move on, to put it simply. It is also time to befriend the shadow of our most shadowy shadow, the one who cannot see beyond the existential misery of this macabre archetype. It is worth asking: what would happen if we lost control? What would that really look like?
Let’s all take really really good care of ourselves and one another.
The moon will also be in Scorpio on the first day of this transit.
Sep 16: Venus square Saturn Retrograde in Aquarius. Cranky, solitary vibes. Not a good influence for socializing.
Sep 23: Venus opposite Uranus Retrograde in Taurus. Uranian influence causes sleep disturbances, chaotic dreams, and unusual aches and pains in the body. Not a good influence for socializing. You may feel off, crispy, crunchy.
Sep 29: Venus trine Neptune Retrograde in Pisces. Dreamlike and beautiful. Fresh, happy, easygoing, breezy.
Sep 30: Venus square Jupiter Retrograde in Aquarius. Tired, cranky vibes. Prepare for mood swings, sleep disturbances, and/or body aches.
With so much sexual/emotional/psychic energy flooding in, unstable relationships are bound to suffer. Bear in mind that Venus in Scorpio is ultimately more about self-discovery than sex or lust. The passion we seek in interpersonal relationships is really intended for self-love. Listen to “Venus, Bringer of Peace” from Gustav Holt’s planetary suite.
