Pluto in Aquarius ♒ 2023-2044

artist: María Jesús Contreras

March 23, 2023 – Jan 19, 2044

I can’t believe I just typed the year 2044 above but it’s true y’all, that’s how long Pluto is going to be in air sign Aquarius. We are exiting the very long Pluto-in-Capricorn chapter (Jan 2008-present) and entering The Age of Aquarius. Pluto has not been in Aquarius since 1777-1797, a time of much tumult and upheaval around the world. The power of Aquarius ignited the rage of the masses and brought about more than one revolution. What will happen this time?

I’ve never covered a Pluto transit before, so bear with me. There’s a lot to discuss.

We can learn about where we are going (Pluto in Aquarius) by understanding where we have just been (Pluto in Capricorn). Each archetype in the zodiac prepares us for what follows. Each constellation has its own cosmology which connects it to its brothers and sisters. Together they all work in tandem, turning the great wheel of life endlessly through the eons.

Capricorn is technically an earth sign but the goat is actually a sea-goat, with a cosmic connection to water and femininity. Over these last 15 years humanity has exerted a colossal effort to bring balance between the elements, between yin and yang, between feminine and masculine, between light and shadow. The #metoo movement is just one of many examples which encapsulate this urgent need to unearth corruption in our toxic patriarchal society. Trans inclusivity and greater understanding around gender pronouns are examples as well; so too is the effort to hold police accountability for their murderous ways. In short, Pluto in Capricorn has been an intense and unforgiving examination of our failing global systems and the ways in which people have suffered so greatly within them.

Pluto in Aquarius will completely demolish these systems. Think back to the late 1700s and what happened to society then. Unrest and discontent reached a fever pitch. People had no options left but to revolt, to reclaim their power, to forge a completely new path forward. We can expect more of the same with Pluto back in Aquarius for the next 20 years. We cannot simply update the systems we have now. They need to be flattened, thrown away, fucking stomped on. We can do better. We must do better. We deserve it.

In some ways Pluto in Aquarius will feel similar to Saturn in Aquarius (2020-2023) – think about the pandemic alone and how much it changed society. One thing that has always been true about Aquarius and always will be: we never know what to expect. And just when you think you’ve figured it out, Aquarius comes and pulls the rug out from under us again. The nature of this archetype is to surprise, upend, shock, and then transmute. So it’s not just fun and games (which Aquarians do love) – the real, higher purpose is to rearrange our brains so completely that we effectively open ourselves to new, previously-unimagined realities.

So Pluto in Aquarius takes Capricorn’s wisdom and seasoned recommendations and then…maybe he’ll use them, maybe he won’t. What we know is that the structures we create now will looking nothing like they did before. Think complete and utter transformation of society, from the ground up. New governments; new healthcare programs; new financial institutions; new international laws; new visions and beliefs sparkling in rainbow extra-terrestrial light.

Ultimately the purpose of Pluto in Capricorn was to reorganize society so that we may once again live in harmony with the natural cycles of our planet and the greater Universe. This requires complete overhaul of global politics and economics. The sickness of our society is not something that can be merely built upon or brushed over. Pluto in Capricorn exposed the hypocrisy and greed rotting the framework of our institutions. The media reports so regularly on global cabals and scandals now that we have become completely desensitized. Pluto in Aquarius is going to refocus our attention on these matters with electric fervor. Instead of eyes glazed over, staring blankly at the screen, the human collective consciousness will be snapped awake, alert to injustice once again, and deeply inspired to take action.

We know Pluto as a little rock who used to be a planet, farther from the sun than anyone else. We know that Pluto’s orbit takes longer than the other planets. It’s cold and lonely out there. In the psyche Pluto similarly represents all that is out of reach, intangible, hidden, felt but not seen. When we make life-altering decisions, Pluto is present. Pluto represents irreversible shift. Through Pluto, the psyche is symbolically dismantled and renewed. Pluto transforms fear into power & divine trust.

Pluto in Aquarius will bring change to our individual and collective lives in ways that we cannot anticipate. I hope you feel as excited as I do. All souls are craving transformation, even those who are contributing to the current sickness of our society. It doesn’t feel good for anyone. Undoubtedly the powers-that-be will try to control this inevitable changing of the tides. I am relieved to say that they will fail spectacularly. There is no escaping the power of Aquarius and the way in which it elevates the masses. The power rests with the people now.

This next journey comes from deep within the soul and you already know it very well. Pluto advances from the inside out, pressurizing the individual ego until a new you bursts forth. Pluto brings us closer, year after year, to who we must become. Pluto is the ultimate evolutionary, purging the psychic underworld, extracting grief and fear embedded in unconscious memories. The destination has already been set in motion; what is more important (but less obvious) is how we react along the way.

LET’S DO THIS!!! 👽⚡️👽✨👽🌈👽♒👽🔮👽⚡️👽✨👽

May 1: Pluto Retrograde begins

May 17: Pluto square Jupiter in Taurus (one day after Jupiter enters this sign). Whenever Jupiter is aspected in a square or opposition, the most important thing is to manage expectations. If we get too ambitious or hopes get up too high, we are bound to be disappointed. This is a good time to focus on what already exists and what we already have, versus pushing forward for more, better, bigger, etc. Pluto will clamp down tightly on Jupiter’s expansive nature and create natural tension.

June 6: Pluto Retrograde re-enters Capricorn

Oct 10: Pluto Retrograde ends

Jan 23, 2024: Pluto re-enters Aquarius
