The vivacious Sun in Sagittarius squares the fanciful moon in Pisces. At the first quarter, the moon rises at noon, peaks at dusk, and sets at midnight all over the world, no matter your time zone.
This moon phase coincides with the very first day of the Sagittarius solar cycle (and Venus in Scorpio!). The moon will stay in Pisces until Nov 24, then transition to Aries for the next 60-hour round. This transition takes us from the shadow of sleep to the light of dawn – a very invigorating shift. The moon is waxing, gathering momentum for fullness. On Nov 29 the moon enters Gemini, marking the beginning of the full moon lunar eclipse!
At quarter moons I usually mention the possibility of emotional turbulence. I’d say this particular juncture is also very confusing and uncertain. Pisces is the queen of wishful thinking, Sagittarius the starry-eyed hunter of the cosmos. When these two wrestle in the skies, we feel incurably restless. Like watery Scorpio, Pisces swims inside the soul. Sagittarius burns through time and space. Sagittarius is Pisces’ fiery predecessor, flipping the fishes out of the water, up to the starlight. Any square involving fire (such as Sagittarius) needs to be released through physical exercise.
First quarter moons bring forward vital information for the full moon. This is the moment where we say – oh, ok, I didn’t see that coming…or oh, ok, things are going to plan. It really depends on how the New Moon in Scorpio goes first. During Sag season, we need to examine our belief systems and sparkling visions for the future. The fire of Sagittarius demands that we look forward and create a plan. Which Sagittarian endeavors are the most exciting? And which are simply not going to work? It’s time to acknowledge the discrepancy between what we had hoped and how it is, or discover that how it is can be even better than what we had hoped.
Because this moon phase coincides with the first day of Venus in Scorpio (in other words – Venus at 0 degrees of another water sign), we get a beautiful trine between the moon and Venus to soften the sharp angles of this quarter moon. Harmonious Venus is absolutely someone you want to have on your side, especially during a moon phase. Good things will come to pass, especially on the interpersonal level.
Pisces encourages rest and reflection. Without rest, Sagittarius gets easily carried away by grandiose plans. As Pisces is the last sign in the zodiac, she brings endings and resolution. Any moon phase in Pisces heralds proverbial death of that which must die. I wish you enough strength to shoot the archer’s bow into the future – on to the next adventure – and enough sensitivity to care for the fishes inside you as they grieve for that which has passed.
Pisces is a night owl/insomniac, so don’t expect to sleep much. If possible, immerse yourself in some hot water. Artistic expression highly recommended, as always. Pay special attention to your feet. Inverted yoga postures with legs on a chair or resting on a wall will be very soothing at this time, as will exercises to drain the lymphatic system.
