Sep 22 (Fall Equinox) – Oct 22, 2021
Your sun sign is just one planet in your star soup. Curious about the rest? Contact me for a natal chart reading.
Heart-deep in the astrological year, we arrive at Libra, goddess of love and luxury, ruled by Venus. Her mythological counterparts are Eros and Aphrodite. Libra is all about interpersonal relationships and what it takes to maintain healthy ones. Let’s take a look at our communication style and see where we need to be more cooperative or perhaps more direct. It’s time to be honest and assertive, to say what we need to say without guilt or shame.
Libra’s scale not only symbolizes balance – manifested in the equinox, with day and night of equal length, earth steeped in gold, flirting with winter’s brambles – but also decision-making and intensive listening. Before “weighing in,” Libra gathers as much information as possible. This is how she teaches the art of contemplation.
Like brother air sign Gemini, Libra represents duality. The two sides of Libra could be categorized as masculine and feminine or right vs left brain, or you could think of them as geometric vs abstract. Many Libras do not believe in astrology. These Libras tend to be skeptical, cautious, mathematical, attracted to symmetry and universal patterns like the Golden Ratio.
Sometimes Libra’s need for fairness and justice is strikingly dogmatic. This is another manifestation of the scale, with the world thrust in black and white relief. The balance for Libra, as is true for all signs, is found somewhere in the middle, where the lines of the graph meet the wavy opulence of Venus, beckoning from her bear skin by the fire.
Heads up: for most of this cycle, Mercury will be retrograde in Libra. We will experience an unusually high level of social dysfunction. Keep communication clear and open. Libra’s greatest gifts are found in the hearts of those who are calm yet decisive. Stand close to them. In meditation, focus on the heart and sacral chakra – connect the two.
Two days before the equinox, we have a Full Moon in Pisces.
Sep 26: Mercury Retrograde begins
Sep 29: Sun trine Saturn Retrograde in Aquarius. Saturn’s industrious, productive influence makes us feel certain about what we want in life. This solid earth energy helps us plan and follow through on obligations. Great day to read, cook, or hang outside. Venus in Scorpio will also trine Neptune Retrograde in Pisces earlier in the day – gold star day.
Oct 7: Sun conjunct Mars in Libra. Strange and powerful dreams. Deep sleep. This is also the first day of Venus in Sagittarius – another gold star day.
Oct 9: Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde in Libra. If you need to do anything that is normally taboo during Mercury Rx – such as signing documents or making a major purchase – this is the best day to do it. Gold star day #3.
Oct 15: Sun trine Jupiter Retrograde in Aquarius. Hopeful, optimistic, yet restless and potentially reckless aspect. Great for talking about the future, not great for sleep or resolution. Jupiter’s energy can be wild or scattered. Revelations ~ illumination ~ honesty ~
Oct 17: Sun square Pluto in Capricorn. This transit represents a powerful change point. New plans may be in order; the tricky part is managing the stress and anxiety. You might feel rushed or overwhelmed, but everything will work out. When Pluto is involved, complex karmic destines are hatching and we do not get to know the details until much later. Prepare for body aches or pains. This is also the last day of Jupiter Retrograde.
