Your sun sign is just one planet in your star soup. Contact me for a natal chart reading to learn more!
Happy birthday kitties!
Heart-deep in the astrological year, we arrive at Leo, king of the zodiac. Leo is ruled by the sun, so the sun is āat homeā for this cycle. This is auspicious. Everyone loves Leo season. Due to the literal centrality of the sun in our solar system, itās true that Leo is all about himself. If you watch closely though, youāll see that the lion is actually quite self-conscious and holds himself to very high standards.
Like everybody else in the zodiac, Leo has many faces. We all know that Leo yearns for a life of leisure and luxury. Another face of Leo is the playful child. This is the lion at his most innocent. Sometimes Leo is the Sun King, ruling with respect and compassion. And then thereās Leo the tyrant, a temperamental child, ego run amuck (think tRump – he has rising sign Leo).
The lion does not like to be wrong. He instigates arguments just to win them. This fire will roll in from every corner of the starscape. Here we sit, soaking it all up. Avoiding conflict entirely is not possible. What we can do is learn how to properly channel this celestial energy in its highest expression. This is one of astrologyās greatest gifts. The more we learn about ourselves and the archetypes of the collective unconscious, the more we can work with these cosmic agents. With Leo, for example, we can channel this smoldering fire through art, music and performance.
Leoās greatest asset is will power. For some, will power comes as naturally as the sun each morning. The ultimate karmic purpose behind incarnation as a Leo is to teach others the secrets of will. The lion is really driven and hardworking, though this may be difficult to imagine if you catch him in lazy cat mode ;)
Earthlings, whether you feel elated or disappointed, manic or belligerent, set it free, get it out, sing it out. This cycle is about manifestation. What doesnāt come out will sit inside of you and turn gross and rotten (like bottled anger) or restless (like brilliant ideas). We fear what our tongues and hands will do if we really let loose, but who are you to hide from the world?
In Ayurvedic medicine, Leo belongs to the pitta dosha. Pitta individuals are loyal and ambitious. Their character is like the fire element: assertive, active, decisive, and determined. Common characteristics of pitta individuals include extroversion, tendency towards high body temperature, and sharp, dark eyes. Pitta types should avoid nightshades (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, etc), spice, and oily/fried foods because these increase internal fire (agni) and therefore make the individual more aggressive and impatient. Try eating cool foods like melon, cucumber, mint, basil, and raw foods. There are free, legitimate tests you can take online to determine your dosha. Search for ādosha testā or āprakriti test.ā I highly recommend finding out your dosha ā this is a HUGE help in deciding which foods are best for you.
On Aug 2, the sun squares Uranus in Taurus. Think erratic electric currents, sudden heat, tingling in the body, or strange events or sensations which cannot be explained. The last time this transit occurred in January, I had heartburn (which I never have) + wandering dreams + waking up in the middle of the night and feeling super uncomfortable in my clothes. Ugh.
On Aug 16, the sun trines Mars in Aries. This should be an *extremely* high energy day – like, holy shit man. The following day on Aug 17, the sun meets up with Mercury for a conjunction. Should be very productive and fast-paced – a great day to get a bunch of stuff done, especially creative projects.
Celebrate the first day of this cycle with Leo Yoga. In meditation, focus on the solar plexus and heart chakra ā connect the two. K love u guys <3
