Aquarius Season ♒ 2023
Jan 20 – Feb 18, 2023
Your sun sign is just one planet in your star soup. Curious about the rest? Contact me for a natal chart reading.
Happy birthday weirdos!
We are nearing the end of the zodiac, arriving now at electric Aquarius. As the last air sign in the wheel, Aquarius represents all that we can learn, study, and know. (The Aquarian affirmation is I know.) Aquarius follows his own path. He embodies a progressive, innovative perspective. Look forward to all things alternative, unorthodox, technological, and philosophical.
Aquarius is cerebral, curious, and totally original. Life unfolds suddenly under this sun and all feels fated. Aquarius loves surprises and keeping us on our toes, reminding us that we don’t actually know anything. The skies are opening, cracked by the gods, ready to shower us with mind-expanding gifts.
The sun is in its detriment in Aquarius, 180 degrees from Leo (ruled by the sun). Because Leo rules the ego, one might say that Aquarius represents the anti-ego. Ironically, the water bearer is unbreakably stubborn on this subject. He safeguards the rights of humanity so vociferously and with such righteousness that, at a certain point, it’s no longer about the common good, it’s just about whether or not he’s right. In the Aquarian world, everything is a battle. Balanced Aquarians are devoted to the evolution of both humanity and their own personal ego. At best, they empower, uplift, and revitalize others.
Aquarius can be emotionally detached, aloof, torn between love of solidarity and love of solitude. The ruling planet of Aquarius is Uranus, Harbinger of the Unexpected. Consider the Greek myth of boy-turned-god Ganymede, for whom Aquarius is named. Ganymede was a beautiful young boy from Troy, just a humble shepherd, completely unaware that Zeus was watching him and had become enamored by his beauty. Zeus transformed into an eagle and abducted Ganymede right from his pasture. Ganymede became – against his will – a consort of Zeus, and was, out of all Zeus’ lovers, the only one to be granted immortality. Ganymede was also designated the cupbearer to the gods; we know him now as Aquarius, “the water bearer.”
Yes, this “boy” was a “lover” of Zeus. His abduction and liaison were clearly non-consensual and morally corrupt. Is this the root of the Aquarian passion for social justice? The root of his scream, clear as dawn, ricocheting down a wintry corridor?
Heads up: on Wed, Jan 18 (2 days before Aquarius Season begins), Mercury retrograde ends + intense conjunction between Sun & Pluto in Capricorn. There is going to be an emotional hangover from this as we enter Aquarian times.
Jan 21: New Moon in Aquarius / Chinese New Year – Year of the Water Rabbit 🐇🌊
Jan 22: Uranus Retrograde in Taurus ends – Uranus is ruler of Aquarius so this is great timing. It’s subtle though, don’t expect any dramatic changes.
Jan 28: Waxing Quarter Moon in Taurus 🌓♉️
Jan 29: Sun trine Mars in Gemini – this should prove to be very resolute and cathartic as Mars has been retrograde for the last several months (ending Jan 12 – finally!). Passion runs high. Anger, sex, desire, and everything in between.
Feb 3: Sun square Uranus in Taurus. Expect the unexpected. Low energy, avoid spending lots of time on screens out of boredom or anxiety. You may get unpleasant news via email or phone call. Social tension, awkwardness, embarrassment. Unusual weather patterns.
Feb 5: Full Moon in Leo 🔥
Feb 13: Waning Quarter Moon in Scorpio 🌗🦂
Feb 16: Sun conjunct Saturn in Aquarius. Expect the unexpected again. Deep drive and motivation thwarted by mysterious forces.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, meditate on the root chakra to get grounded again, or try some Aquarius Yoga.
