Your sun sign is just one planet in your star soup. Curious about the rest? Contact me for a natal chart reading.
Happy birthday weirdos!
We are nearing the end of the zodiac, arriving now at electric Aquarius. As the last air sign in the wheel, Aquarius represents all that we can learn, study, and know. (The Aquarian affirmation is I know.) This solar cycle is also about adventure and living creatively. Aquarius follows his own path. He is the non-conformist of the zodiac, down for anything. This is an excellent time to connect with new scenes and new concepts. Aquarius lends a progressive, innovative perspective. Look forward to all things alternative, unorthodox, technological, and philosophical.
Aquarius is cerebral, curious, and totally original. Life under this sun feels novel and exciting. Events unfold suddenly, and yet all feels fated, everything at exactly the right moment. Aquarius loves surprises and keeping us on our toes, reminding us that we don’t actually know anything. Inhale this constant state of wonder. The skies are opening as though cracked by the gods, ready to shower us with mind-expanding gifts. Artists, writers, innovators of all kinds – prepare for a burst of creative energy.
The sun is in its detriment in Aquarius, 180 degrees from Leo (ruled by the sun). Because Leo rules the ego, one might say that Aquarius represents the anti-ego. Ironically, the water bearer is unbreakably stubborn on this subject. He safeguards the rights of humanity so vociferously and with such righteousness that, at a certain point, it’s no longer about the common good, it’s about whether or not he’s right. In the Aquarian world, everything is a battle, a rivalry, a constant railing against convention. Balanced Aquarians are devoted to the evolution of both humanity and their own personal ego. At best, they empower, uplift, and revitalize their communities.
Aquarius can be emotionally detached, aloof, torn between love of solidarity and love of solitude. The ruling planet of Aquarius is Uranus, Harbinger of the Unexpected. Consider the Greek myth of boy-turned-god Ganymede, for whom Aquarius is named. Ganymede was a beautiful young boy from Troy, just a humble shepherd, completely unaware that Zeus was watching him and had become enamored by his beauty. Zeus transformed into an eagle and abducted Ganymede right from his pasture. Ganymede became – against his will – a consort of Zeus, and was, out of all Zeus’ lovers, the only one to be granted immortality. Ganymede was also designated the cupbearer to the gods; we know him now as Aquarius, “the water bearer.”
Yes, this “boy” was a “lover” of Zeus. His abduction and liaison were clearly non-consensual and morally corrupt. Is this the root of Aquarius’ fiery passion for social justice? The root of his scream, clear as dawn, ricocheting down the wintry corridor?
The sun will be conjunct Mercury on Jan 23. I used to think this was a positive influence for incorrigible old Mercury Retrograde but now I tend to think that it just fucks things up even more, so stay cool out there.
The sun squares Uranus in Taurus on Jan 30. Expect the unexpected. Trust your intuition. Not a good influence for risk-taking. You may get unpleasant news via email or phone call. Social tension. Awkwardness or embarrassment. Watch for unusual weather patterns.
Jan 31 is the New Moon in Aquarius / Chinese New Year! 2022 is the year of the water tiger, how sexy is that? During my Montessori teacher training I became friends with several women from China and learned about how life there revolves around the moon phases. Birthdays are celebrated not according to a fixed calendar date, but according to when the moon and sun return to the same positions. I’ve always thought this is a more accurate way of celebrating.
Sun conjunct Saturn in Aquarius on Feb 4 – gold star day. Very productive, high energy. Motivation and confidence.
As for Valentine’s Day, Aquarius season is the worst possible timing for a holiday meant to celebrate love & partnership. Aquarius is many things, but not romantic ;)
If you are feeling overwhelmed by this influx of mental/intellectual energy, meditate on the root chakra to get grounded again, or try some Aquarius Yoga.
