Mercury in Scorpio ☿ 2022
Oct 29 – Nov 17, 2022
Mercury rules the mind, communication, and throat chakra. We are finally exiting the shadow of Mercury Retrograde, which realllllyyyy asked us to stretch and open our hearts. This transit was a powerful lesson in what it means to relate to other humans in a peaceful, harmonious way. Libra swings in the wind, polite yet insistent. We were reminded of the power of assertive rather than avoidant behavior; reconciliation rather than suppression; self-validation rather than external. Above all, we learned to better recognize and honor our needs. Shaky relationships were tested, but these challenges were designed to help and center us.
And now Scorpio Season, so quiet and serious compared to the breeze of Libra. This transit renders proverbial death of that which must die. Mercury in Scorpio is a broom on the threshold, shuffling stifled energy out across the tongue.
Scorpio is intimately linked to sex, survival, and trauma. Like a hungry animal gnawing and growling, wailing us back to hard nights in the dark autumn woods, alone, fur standing on end, Scorpio abides in mystery, in depths where others dare not swim. Mercury in Scorpio is sensual, mystical, driven to uncover motivating forces.
Mercury in Scorpio brings repressed tension to the surface, extracting pain through long overdue conversations, words of forgiveness, apologies, and brutal honesty. This is a cathartic yet emotionally-charged cycle.
Animals associated with Mercury include the rooster, ram, goat and tortoise. In Scorpio, the ram blazes from Mercury’s breast: passionate and forceful. In ancient times, Scorpio was ruled by Mars, God of War. Though modern astrologers now associate Scorpio with Pluto, her warrior roots are very alive. I see both in her. She is pointed and fierce yet profound. She is fearless and persevering, suspicious and psychoanalytical. When you call her name, you call upon destruction; upon rebirth; upon power & control.
With Mercury in Scorpio, we return to the past to address old wounds. Imagine a cave with the door sealed shut. Inside are all of your jealous skeletons and ancient pains. Scorpio removes the blocks, and in come streams of brilliant light and fresh air.
This cycle is most favorable for people with natal planets in Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.
Oct 30: Mars Retrograde begins
Nov 8: Mercury conjunct Sun in Scorpio + Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Taurus + Mercury opposite Uranus Retrograde in Taurus – WATCH THE FUCK OUT. Uranian influence is unexpected and unpredictable. Strange dreams; body rhythms thrown way off; depression; dark & gloomy vibes.
