Mercury rules travel, communication, and the mind. With magical caduceus in hand, soothsayer Mercury leads newly departed souls from the lower to the upper worlds. Mercury governs mental processing. It is his influence which determines our perception and style of communication.
In Sagittarius, communication gets interesting. I think it is the questing, seeking element of Sagittarius which provides so much heat. Mercury in Sagittarius is assertive, blunt, and honest. This transit is a master class in Truth. Being a truth-teller means saying something when everyone else is silent. It means being an ally, a whistleblower, a dissenter. It is embodied authenticity.
What is unique about Sagittarian fire is how it unfolds like a journey. The fire of Aries, for example, is more impulsive, moving for the sake of moving. Sagittarius, as the last fire in the trilogy, is the most refined, representing the fire of spiritual and moral curiosity.
After our recent Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, this transit is going to feel like we are FLYING into the future. You know when you’ve been stuck behind a car in the left lane for a long-ass time and they finally move over to the right lane and then you fucking speed down the highway for awhile, just to make up for the time you feel like you’ve lost? That’s exactly what this transit is going to feel like – playing catch up, trying to cram as much in as possible. All good, we just need to watch for a few trademark Sagittarian things, like promising more than we can deliver, or getting our hopes up too high. Yes, we’ll have energy and enthusiasm, we just need to temper it with a little wisdom. Ask yourself: are these the right words AND is this the right time to say them? Avoid rushing or hurrying through a process so quickly that you miss crucial details.
Under scorpionic influence, we had somewhat of a choice whether to speak or remain silent. We could internalize if we wanted. Not so with Mercury in Sag – we have to speak. The centaur thrives on change and movement, releasing all in the heat of the moment.
It’s sooo easy to cross into judgment and self-righteousness here. Truth is not always warmly received, even by Sagittarius. That’s the funny thing about the centaur. He is so eager and curious yet he can be deeply in denial. He may not see himself clearly, nor his path. He may not be able to identify his own moral shortcomings.
On Dec 13, Mercury squares slippery Neptune in Pisces. This may bring fatigue, mental fog, poor judgment, headaches, and/or strange dreams. When this transit occurred last year, my partner forgot to lock my car and someone came in the middle of the night in the pouring rain (!) and stole a bunch of shit from my car.
Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius coming Dec 14! That same day, Mercury trines Mars in Aries. This transit is extremely titillating and stimulating, pretty much the polar opposite of Mercury square Neptune. Don’t expect to sleep much.
Venus joins the Sagittarius party on Dec 15. Also happy birthday to my mom and brother, two unicorns born on the same day <3
Saturn re-enters Aquarius on Dec 16 – my Saturn Return begins again!
Jupiter also enters Aquarius on Dec 19 – whoa whoa whoa. That same day, Mercury meets up with the Sagittarian sun for a conjunction. When the sun and Mercury work together, everything just feels right. Life flows in the direction we want it to flow. We feel groovy, all is copacetic.
This transit is generally favorable for Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius (obvs) and generally unfavorable for Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces. If you were born with Mercury in Sagittarius, these next two weeks are your Mercury Return. To find your personal Mercury sign, click here.
