Venus: goddess of art, romance, pleasure, and beauty. Venus speaks to the heart. In Sagittarius, the heart can finally breathe. The heart can soar, run wild, escape. Sagittarius invites space and freedom; adventure and spontaneity.
Every autumn we swim with Venus in Scorpio. Just as with Venus in Libra, our relationships have suffered, and yet they have also grown. Scorpio forces us to confront the issue at hand. There is no playing around, no avoiding. And yet through Scorpio we are also learning how to soften, how to forgive, how to relinquish our need for control in exchange for elevated awareness. We have been pushed to our limit, into our shadowy darkness, in order to learn that we cannot force or mold the path. The journey simply unfolds as it must, year after year. Tender wounds and real crises befall us in midnight hours, then grace arrives most unexpectedly, when the situation is most dire. A great sob wells up in the chest and finally bursts out, like a splinter slipping out of our skin at last.
Now the healing may begin.
After traveling down to the scorpion cove, we ascend to sparkling Sagittarian skies. With Venus in Sagittarius, life glows like a joyful bonfire. This is an exuberant, festive cycle. Sagittarius the Centaur is spirited and vibrant, helping us move forward and close the scorpion chapter. No need to dwell in pain or resentment anymore. We can embrace the winter holiday season with inner warmth and optimism.
But there are challenges waiting for us here, too. When planets transit Sagittarius, a childlike naïveté swirls. As the archetype following Scorpio, Sagittarius compensates for the darkness by being so light and carefree that some things get overlooked on purpose. Sometimes it just feels like too much. Sagittarius says he doesn’t have time and quickly looks the other way. He gallops away when a situation calls for an assertive response, when things are left undone, still needing attention. He is restless, flighty, avoidant. He does not want to confront a person or a thing if it will cause discord. He just wants to dance in his rose-colored glasses.
If only Sagittarius could slow down a little, inhale some of that fiery courage. If only he could dance in place for a moment, see it all, acknowledge it. Life is moving so quickly. Everything is unfolding all at once. How are we going to process it all?
