Mercury in Taurus ☿ 2021
Apr 19 – May 3, 2021
This year the first day of Mercury in Taurus coincides with the first day of Taurus Season <3
Mercury rules the mind, communication, and the throat chakra. Mercury in Taurus gives us drive, confidence, and conviction. Of course we get all those things with Mercury in Aries too, but earth signs give us more grounding and definition. We’ve got a plan now and we’re sticking to it. Also in Taurus at this time: Venus (Apr 14-May 8) and Uranus (2018-2026).
This transit is favorable for people with natal planets in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, and Pisces, and generally unfavorable for Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
Mercury in Taurus is a simple yet indulgent creature. In her most evolved expression, she is a minimalist and essentialist, detached from the illusory comforts of the material world. She eliminates the unimportant to see what is important. Those born with Mercury in Taurus enact this through their speech. They are succinct communicators, cutting and editing their words as they speak.
The sacred cow is so sensual and passionate, yet so averse to change and disruption. Taurus will not build anything on unstable or uncertain ground. This is Taurean suicide, to sacrifice or even risk your security. Taurus fears the unknown. She would rather sustain and maintain what is already known, or what already exists.
Like a sleepy tortoise, Taurus is rooted in place. It’s true that her energy can be a little too still or static. Mercury in Taurus can manifest as stagnation of the thoughts and mind. But the message is clear: it’s ok to take your time. It’s all about patience. And though it never comes to her quickly, inner peace is the sacred cow’s specialty. Feel it welling up from deep within the earth.
Mercury in Taurus is self-assured, direct, and candid. The cow is at once complacent and argumentative. Sometimes she is just udderly intransigent or judgmental. Taurus can also be impatient, despite expecting others to be infinitely patient with her. (I am a Taurus by the way, which is why I can throw all this shade :p)
Prosperity • abundance • tranquility
Apr 23: Mercury conjunct Uranus in Taurus (also first day of Mars in Cancer). This influence can be fatiguing or draining, especially if you spend too much time on screens.
Apr 25: Mercury squares Saturn in Aquarius early in the morning. This can be a grumpy or fatiguing influence. Avoid loud or unpleasant environments. Recharge at home without guilt. Later that same day, Mercury will be conjunct lovely Venus at home in Taurus, which will help bring the day to a harmonious close.
May 2: Mercury trine Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn. This will be a highly cathartic day where we feel motivated to do things we have been avoiding out of fear. Expect pleasant dreams and deep sleep.
May 3: On the very last day of this transit, Mercury squares Jupiter in Aquarius. This is also the Last Quarter Moon in Aquarius AND the Sun is squaring Saturn in Aquarius (which means the quarter moon will be conjunct Saturn) so expect the unexpected. I guarantee that whatever your plans are, they won’t unfold the way you think they will. You may feel especially exhausted or discouraged. Expect and abundance of questions without (easy) answers.
