The Waning Last Quarter Moon rises at midnight, peaks at dawn, and sets at noon all over the world. Last quarter moons are important junctures, clearing the way for the new moon/new lunar cycle. This phase serves as a review of insight & information gained at the Super Blue Full Moon in Pisces on Aug 30 and also as preparation for the New Moon in Virgo on Sep 14.
At this station, the sociable moon in Gemini squares the lively Virgo sun. People with this sun & moon combination are fastidious and detail-oriented, both as children and adults. They find great satisfaction in cleaning, organizing, and categorizing. They are lifelong learners who love orderly subjects like math and linguistics.
The quarter moon in Gemini is an agent of motion, a breeze that lifts and drops us somewhere else, a new location, a new scene. Virgo is the rooting agent. She calls to Gemini: come down from the clouds, back to your body, back to routine and wellness and homeostasis.
Both Gemini and Virgo are ruled by Mercury (who will be retrograde during this moon phase!). Gemini/Virgo/Mercury are associated with regulated environments like school and work. The curious thrill of going back to school each fall – this is the essence of mercurial energy. The joy of taking care of our health and learning more about our bodies – this is Virgo. Synapses firing, letters flying around the planet – this is Gemini.
Now we remember our role as student of life, or perhaps you are stepping into the role of teacher here. This moon phase encourages us to be engaged, pragmatic, and direct. It is time to network, dialog, and get to know one another better. We are busy busy busy, productive, synergistic. Things are coming together. Take deep breaths and move your body to process your thoughts. Gemini also teaches us to lean on close friends and siblings in hard times.
This moon phase signals a mega influx of mutable energy. Everything will unfold very quickly. In fact, this moon phase is so busy that we might forgo self care, but do something if you can – the sympathetic nervous system will need attention.
My notes from this moon phase last year: woke up thinking about school/work; ripping the vape pen and throwing sheep back over the fence; green tea; cool autumn morning; active mind; tired but wired.
Heads up: this moon phase squares Mercury Retrograde in Virgo (the sun will be conjunct Mercury Rx earlier in the day). A change of plans is in order. Keep expectations light and flexible. The message is clear: go with the flow or get trampled by Mercury & his shenanigans.
When the moon is in Gemini, it is a good time to eat, plant, and harvest flowers. It is also a good time to write, read, sing, and/or go wild with creative projects. In meditation, focus on the throat chakra. Digest your thoughts with Gemini Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
