Welcome to Virgo Season, where the New Moon falls in the constellation of the immaculate maiden. Virgo is an earth sign representing work, health, and service. It is my mission here in the Zen Ren Galaxy to redefine Virgo and update her image for modern times.
New moons are new beginnings. This time we’re thinking about work, the people with whom we work, and our most honest feelings about our work. Silhouetted by the waning summer sun, the New Moon in Virgo calls us to the field, the desk, the classroom. No mystery, delusion, or distractions for the coming month. This is crisp autumn dawn, sure feet toward the garden gate.
This new moon coincides (again!) with my first day back at school as a Montessori teacher. Considering that the moon will form a near-exact trine to Uranus Retrograde in Taurus, I feel confident that not everything will go to plan. That’s right, Uranian influence is highly unpredictable. However the supportive nature of the trine suggests – no, ensures – that our attitude towards these unexpected changes is enthusiastic. In fact we will experience that special state of mind where nothing can shake us, no matter what happens. Our hearts and minds are wide open and ever-adaptable, ready to be pleasantly surprised.
As she bustles about, Virgo teaches pragmatism and efficiency. This is a good time to make lists and schedules. It’s a good time to do anything that needs to be done, really. That’s what I love about Virgo. She is so focused and productive. Yes, there is anxiety and perfectionism to overcome in her world, but if we learn to work with this energy in a way that feels healthy for our minds and bodies, we can accomplish so much. But I’ll say that again for the Virgos in the room: it’s ok to relax, busy honeybees. It’s ok to sleep and nourish your body and recharge. Actually you have to do this. That’s the magical paradox of Virgo: the more we rest and recharge, the more productive we are.
This New Moon is absolutely PACKED with planetary events, starting in the early morning with a harmonious trine between Mars in Virgo and Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn. This is a happy, high energy influence which keeps us awake at night. It brings more energy to the psyche than the body. Think tired but wired.
Lastly at the end of the day, about 40 minutes after the New Moon is exact, the sun trines Uranus. This is another very happy and social influence. Highly stimulating. Get PUMPED.

With Venus in Libra now, I feel Libra coming, footsteps growing louder down the hall, like a drum calling us to the equinox gathering. Turn your head now toward the farmer rising with the sun. Pick up your tools and follow her, humble stewards of the planet. The vines are heavy now with violet globes, ripe and prophesied. At the hour of harvest, what is on the vine is what we receive. So bow to the earth and gather from her tenderly the fruits of your sowing.
Power up with verdant gemstones like amazonite, jasper, magnetite, or moss agate. Power up your gut with fennel, caraway, and mint, as well as seasonal fruits. The Virgo power flower is morning glory. Virgo rules the digestive system and sympathetic nervous system. Though it will be an insanely busy time, stay centered by exercising and/or meditating each morning. Wear green/earth tones. Calm the mind with deep belly breathing and Virgo Yoga. In meditation, focus on the throat chakra. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
