Mar 20 (Spring Equinox) – Apr 19, 2021
Your sun sign is just one planet in your star soup. Curious about the rest? Contact me for a natal chart reading!
The equinox officially takes place at 2:37am PST on Mar 20 <3
From the belly of a long, strange dream, you awaken. The earth is cold and night yet all around. You crawl to the shore. Step by step, dark water falls away. Ahead looms the mountain. You climb effortlessly and without hesitation. Your eyes open to a blood red sun, rising over jagged peaks. You kneel before the gong, body quaking with the earth as she splits, and into her fires you fall.
Welcome to the crimson mesa, where feral flames lick inner shores. If Pisces is the last breath, Aries is the first. Pisces season dismantles everything, then Aries arrives on the wings of the spring equinox. This cycle represents the turning of the earth toward all that is new.
Aries season is an examination of the ego, that force within us which is most fundamental to our sense of self, our sense of being. This means sitting and watching it all come in, the endless parade of thoughts and impulses and aversions and attachments, the parade of ME and what it means to be me. We’ll move too. Aries loves to move. This archetype embodies the third yogic niyama known as tapas, or heat generated by the body. The literal translation of tapas is austerity or discipline – so it is not just heat, but the burning of impurities, a burning which leaves us cleared, ready to commit.
Here we are, the first stop on the zodiac wheel, burning up with springtime lust. Change and endings during the Pisces season start to make sense. Pen and page touch; planets form. The sun blazes down from on high, begging us to jump headfirst into the year.
A scarlet gem smolders in the pineal gland, arousing the senses. This is the ram’s invincible life-giving power. Suffering sizzles in columns of sparkling vermilion smoke. Doubt, insecurity, and fear evaporate. Fire does not reflect, it moves. Dance, fill the dark sky with your light. See the sun chase down this bottomless night.
Venus enters Aries on Mar 21, one day after the equinox. Venus then catches up to the sun for a conjunction on Mar 25. Venus makes us cry tears of joy for the ones we love. This is a beautiful and productive influence. Transitions go well, plans are easily made and carried out.
New Moon in Aries on April 11. In my opinion, this annual event is the closest thing we have to an astrological lunar new year. It’s a massive reawakening, so get excited for more fresh energy and invigoration coming your way.
The sun squares Pluto in Capricorn on Apr 16. Such a powerful day, woooof. We last saw this aspect on Oct 15, 2020. I had terrible nightmares and then showed up to work to discover that my beloved classroom assistant was leaving – and she was smart to do so! When the tension becomes too much, sometimes the wise thing to do is walk away and create something beautiful somewhere else. Don’t jeopardize your emotional wellbeing.
Lastly the sun will be conjunct Mercury on Apr 18. We just saw this aspect on Feb 8. (Granted Mercury was retrograde at this time so I’m really hoping this revisitation brings more resolution and harmony this time around.) The influence of Mercury makes the mind extremely active. You might have insomnia, vivid (stressful) dreams, or a nervous stomach. Listen to your gut and FOLLOW YOUR INTUITION.
