Mercury in Gemini ☿ 2023

June 11-26, 2023
Mercury: ruler of travel, communication, and the mind; poet, soothsayer, healer, lucky star, and underworld guide. With magical caduceus in hand, Mercury leads freshly discorporated souls from the lower to the upper worlds.
We are exiting the shadow of Mercury Retrograde in Taurus now. It wasn’t easy, this much is true. Pluto’s recent move into Aquarius ensures that Taurus Season will be sharp and arduous for years to come with many squares to navigate…but we’ll get the hang of it eventually.
Mercury in Gemini is a very short transit (just two weeks) and that’s all we need. Gemini is a mutable sign, operating always in duality, always in motion, and somehow always with perfect timing. Mercury in Gemini is the antithesis of Mercury Retrograde: everything and everyone operating at hyper speed, all according to plan.
Gemini & Virgo Season are perhaps the busiest times of the year. Mercury rules Gemini (and Virgo), so he is “at home” for this cycle. This is one of the most auspicious transits of the year, with pure mercurial essence billowing down from the clouds. It’s time to create, communicate, network, write, sing, dance – whatever excites you intellectually or creatively.
Gemini is known as the twins, so sibling relations are up for review, but Gemini is a social butterfly with tendrils connected to many different circles. This buzzing energy in the skies will help us feel lighter, happier, more extroverted. Visualize a quick and witty wind blowing through the open door of your life, sweeping out your mind.
Gemini: witty wordsmith, laughing fairy, traveling musician. To the untrained eye, Gemini appears calm, cool, and collected, but a bundle of nervous energy vibrates just beneath the surface. Mercury’s tiny size and speed are perfectly reflected in the qualities of Gemini. Twins, according to archetype, are wiry, spritely, and always on the move. Twins represent duality in all forms: male and female, light and dark, day and night, life and death, sun and moon.
Despite the gregarious outer shell, Gemini is a private soul, cloaked in secrecy. Geminis can’t/won’t stay in one relationship, job, or physical location for long. Infatuated with mystery, they become easily addicted to new people or ideas, and then, just as quickly, drop these obsessions. Here we see the twins’ notorious aloofness. One twin wants to love and be loved; the other can’t wait to fly away and never come back. Gemini routinely leaves his comfort zone to slake an undying thirst for what is real and extreme and intoxicating, then returns to be rocked and lulled by a familiar revolution.
June 11: Mercury in Taurus trine Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn (seconds before Mercury enters Gemini). Endurance, ambition, will power, inner strength.
June 15: Mercury square Saturn in Pisces. Self-criticism and self-consciousness, anxiety and depression. Mental blockages; feeling stuck.
June 17: New Moon in Gemini + 1st day of Saturn Retrograde
June 21: Summer Solstice / 1st day of Cancer Season
June 25: Mercury square Neptune in Pisces. Strange dreams. Altered consciousness. Restlessness, indecision, feeling lost. The mind yearns to break free.
June 26 (last day of Mercury in Gemini): Quarter Moon in Libra + Mars in Leo square Uranus in Taurus
