The Waning Last Quarter Moon rises at midnight, peaks at dawn, and sets at noon all over the world, no matter your time zone. At this station, the defiant moon in Aquarius squares the solid Taurus sun. What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Bitch we’re about to find out.
Last quarter moons are turning points or crossroads, clearing the way for the new moon / new lunar cycle. This phase prepares us for the New Moon in Taurus on May 11.
Aquarius is the zodiac’s eccentric psychonaut, ruling community and circulation of people and ideas. He is an exuberant, excitable archetype who loves to dance and stay up late into the night. Taurus, on the other hand, wraps us in deep layers of comfort and stability. She welcomes everyone into her home, her garden, her patch of earth. When quirky traveler Aquarius arrives, loudly chanting prophecies, he upends this whole earthen notion of safety and security. He is almost condescending when it comes to such ideas; he wants us to be adaptable and open-minded instead. He doesn’t want us to count on anything remaining the same.
When Aquarius billows in, nothing pans out the way we think it will. This is neither good nor bad, it just is. Aquarius reminds us that the Universe does not care about our expectations. How do you react when everything changes? This is the locus of our work now.
The Last Quarter Moon in Aquarius forces us out of our comfort zones. And then there’s Taurus, chewing slowly in the sun, inhaling flowery aromas. Amongst the leaves and fruits of Taurus’ green green garden, we find turquoise Aquarian crystals opening to other dimensions. We can nourish two needs at once: the need to be grounded (Taurus) and the need to think freely (Aquarius).
This moon phase can be taxing on the mind and spirit. It is at once puzzling, stimulating, and demanding. The Aquarian affirmation is I know – so what do you know? Humans are unique creatures because we have the capacity to know what we don’t know. Treat this moon phase as a giant review of all the knowledge and expertise you’ve gathered over the last year.
May 3 is going to be an extremely busy day. Mercury in Taurus squares Jupiter in Aquarius early that morning. Watch for headaches, exhaustion, depression, loneliness, screen burnout, or feeling discouraged. There may be miscommunication and/or an abundance of unanswered (or unanswerable) questions.
This quarter moon will be almost *exactly* conjunct Saturn in Aquarius, which is fabulous. Saturn, similar to Taurus, gives us solid ground to stand on. Saturn is strong, reliable, and hardworking. However, this configuration means that Saturn is squaring the Taurus sun too. This signals bodily discomfort, so I highly recommend eating lightly or fasting. Mighty Saturn asks us to get real and look at the facts. The day will have a serious yet unexpected flavor. Watch for stress and increased criticism towards self and others.
Lastly Mercury enters Gemini that evening, providing some lift and levity at the end of what will surely be a very interesting and unpredictable day.
