Just two days before the beginning of Scorpio Season, we have a full moon in Aries, opposing the waning Libra sun. The first full moon after the Fall Equinox is called the Harvest Moon. The October full moon is also called the Hunter’s Moon. Moonrise at sunset, peak at midnight, moonset at sunrise all over the world.
Sun and moon oppose one another in Aries and Libra: the axis of Self (Aries) and others (Libra). Aries wants us to be assertive; Libra wants us to be tactful and diplomatic. The Libra solar cycle is all about balance, especially in our relationships. This full moon is coming in hot. Get ready for the great cosmic fusion between molten self-respect and unwavering commitment to fairness and justice.
This full moon is anything but quiet. Aries is restless and reckless. In his world, nothing comes soon enough or fast enough. In the body, Aries rules the head, brain, eyes, face, and muscles, as well as blood flow. You can see why adjectives like hotheaded come from the archetype of Aries.
It makes sense that Aries is synonymous with Self. As the first constellation in the zodiac, Aries rules what is essential for life. For us humans, that is our bodies and central consciousness. The mantra for Aries is “I am.” When we are born; when we wake up in the morning; when we are proud or angry; when we fight or attack; whenever that vibrant, magma center of our being is awakened – this is Aries.
This full moon is an exercise in self-empowerment, the healthiest expression of Aries. Certainly the relationship between Aries and Libra is a delicate one. Libra tends to hold Aries back out of fear. She does not want to rock the boat. She does not want to reap the consequences of Aries’ infamous actions. But at this full moon we really must step back and let these two archetypes wrestle it out.
At this full moon last year I was under a full energetic attack at my workplace. I was miserable. My relationship with the director of the school was absolutely toxic. Everything felt so tense and overwhelming. If I had chosen a more passive or submissive response, I would perhaps still be there. But this full moon ignited a truth within me: speaking up – and then walking away – was the best and highest path. To be outspoken; to be authentic; to act. This was the righteous way.
The real magic of Aries is the rebirth, primordial fire ablaze, bones licked clean, muscles straining, reaching for the highest peak. RISE UP FROM ALL DIRECTIONS!
Be prepared for significant changes in your relationships. This is especially true for people with sun/moon/rising in Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn.
action ~ impulse ~ balance ~ cosmic vision ~ strength ~ courage
Full disclosure: this full moon looks contentious. The moon and sun are locked in a T-square with Pluto. The moon will also oppose Mars in Libra, still cozied up next to the sun after a recent conjunction. All of this means that our calm will be tested. It is very important to choose our words and actions wisely. Take your time. Don’t rush the process. And at the same time seek balance by acting decisively. No pressure!
Psychic and physical energy increase significantly at every full moon. This is felt not just the day of, but for days before and after. Emotions and intuition will be heightened. Focus on the solar plexus chakra in meditation for strength and confidence. Wear red. Build your inner fire with Aries Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
