The first full moon after the Fall Equinox is called the Harvest Moon. The October full moon is also called the Hunter’s Moon. The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise all over the world, no matter your time zone.
Sun and moon oppose one another in Aries and Libra: the axis of relationships. The Full Moon in Aries examines our relationship to self (Aries) and others (Libra). Aries wants to know if we are being assertive; Libra wants to know if we are being kind and diplomatic. The Libra solar cycle is all about bringing balance to our lives, especially our relationships. And now the full moon juncture, where we enter Libra’s peaceful domain with a red hot fire poker. This is the great cosmic fusion of molten self-respect and unwavering support for loved ones.
This full moon is anything but quiet. Aries is restless and reckless. In his world, nothing comes soon enough or fast enough. Stay cool out there – some intense cosmic energy is about to arrive on the back of fiery, impulsive Aries. In the body, Aries rules the head, brain, eyes, face, and muscles, as well as blood flow. You can see why adjectives like hotheaded (and horny!) come from the archetype of Aries.
It makes sense that Aries is synonymous with Self. As the first constellation in the zodiac, Aries rules what is most fundamental. For us humans, that is our bodies and central consciousness. The mantra for Aries is “I am.” When we exercise until our bodies are hot and sweaty and pumping with endorphins, this is the essence of Aries. When we are born; when we wake up in the morning; when we are proud or angry; when we fight or attack; whenever that vibrant, magma center of our being is awakened – this is Aries.
The good news is that this full moon will be conjunct Chiron Retrograde in Aries. Chiron is an asteroid known as the wounded healer. When planets cozy up to Chiron, it is time to go deep into the psyche and heal our wounds from the inside out. In particular, we are asked to heal our ego and warrior nature. Fractures in the ego ripple out and affect our emotions. They make us quick to anger, or perhaps make us feel that we must constantly prove ourselves. We can validate ourselves without relying on others. That is the crux of this full moon: an exercise in self-empowerment (the healthiest expression of Aries).
Like a new star in the sky, like a butterfly unfurling, soar as though you have just discovered your body. The real magic of Aries is rebirth, primordial fire ablaze, bones licked clean, muscles straining, reaching for the highest peak. RISE UP FROM ALL DIRECTIONS!
Psychic and physical energy increase significantly at every full moon. This is felt not just the day of, but for days before and after. Emotions and intuition will be heightened.
