Every month the moon spins into the same constellation as the sun. This lunar-solar conjunction is what we call a new moon. This month the new moon falls in the constellation of Libra the Scales. Libra is an air sign representing love, relationships, and community. It is time to practice peace, tact, and honesty.
New moons are new beginnings. This time we’re asked to consider our relationships to the people with whom we co-create. Can you bring more grace to your communication? Can you take accountability and at the same time raise up your voice and demand accountability from others?
Libra: daughter of Uranus (Father Sky) and Mother Earth; poised and gleaming; tall and proud. Libra comes from the Greek goddess Themis, whose name translates to “divine law.” Themis is often depicted blindfolded, wielding a sword to cut through delusion.
Libra is known as an agent of balance but sometimes she sees everything in black and white. With sword in hand, we have a choice. We can cut the world in two, pushing all that we see and feel into one category or the other, or we can dig deeper to understand the real meaning of the sword.
Libra’s sword is not a weapon. It is designed to unearth truth and draw boundaries. These lines are not meant to isolate or devalue. To set boundaries is to love yourself and others. Boundaries are a form of communication. They are necessary and beneficial for everyone.
***Heads up: Mercury will be retrograde in Libra***
This new moon coincides with the last day of Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn which means that it is a turning point in more than one sense. A close conjunction to Mars in Libra gives this new moon a zing of energy and pizzazz. Beautiful harmony between feminine and masculine energies. It is also worth noting that the sun/moon in Libra will oppose Chiron Retrograde in Aries. The appearance of both Pluto and Chiron gives this new moon a deeply emotional flavor.
We are healing not just our relationships but ourselves and the fractures in our psyche. This is always true; new moons like these help us to remember these fundamental truths, as does the archetype of Libra. Our relationships and connections are merely a reflection of ourselves. Every person in life reflects who and where we are. Interpersonal discord reflects inner discord. Everyone we meet is a teacher, illuminating our personal strengths and weaknesses. The people who irritate us are just showing us the parts of ourselves that haven’t matured enough yet to be an impartial witness!
