Every month the moon spins into the same constellation as the sun. This lunar-solar conjunction is what we call a new moon. This month the moon and sun converse together in noble Libra. This is the last moon phase of the Libra solar cycle. The moon enters Scorpio later that same night. On Oct 23, the moon transitions from Capricorn to Aquarius in preparation for the quarter moon (the first moon phase of the Scorpio solar cycle).
New moons are new beginnings. It’s time to consider our relationships and our most honest feelings about the people with whom we live, work, study, and make love. Are you surrounded by the right people? Identify which relationships are the most difficult, and then ask yourself why, with deep humility. Humanity is crying out, starved for communion, for romance, for peace. Walk softly beside your loved ones and let’s see what we can heal together.
Daughter of Uranus (Father Sky) and Mother Earth, Libra is steeped in grandeur, poised and gleaming, tall and proud. Libra comes from the Greek goddess Themis, whose name translates to “divine law.” In most classical interpretations, Themis is depicted blindfolded, wielding a sword to cut through delusion. Libra is known as an agent of balance, but sometimes there is no middle ground in her world, with the weights of her scale either here or there, no in-between. With sword in hand, we have a choice. We can cut the world in two, pushing all that we see and feel into one category or the other, or we can dig deeper to understand the real meaning of the sword.
Libra’s sword is not a weapon of division or exclusion. It is designed to unearth truth and draw boundaries. These lines are not meant to isolate or devalue certain people or ideas. To set boundaries is to love yourself and others. Boundaries are a form of communication. They are necessary and beneficial for everyone.
The people in our lives reflect who and where we are, and interpersonal conflict only reflects inner discord. Everyone we meet is a teacher, illuminating our personal strengths and weaknesses. The people who irritate us the most are just showing us the parts of ourselves that haven’t matured enough yet to be an impartial witness!
This new moon looks contentious with a double square to Saturn + Pluto in Capricorn. Luna will also oppose Mars Retrograde in Aries. These sharp angles throw us off and make us feel uncertain about which action to take. This is especially true since Mercury will be freshly retrograde.
The new moon in Libra may manifest as a crisis of consciousness, eliciting stress, anxiety, fatigue, disorganization, and powerful emotional reactions. Still, everything will work out, even if you have to make a new plan at the last minute. With Pluto involved, it’s clear that complex karmic destines are hatching – and we don’t get to know the details until much later! So take a deep breath and determine whether your fears are rooted in reality or not. With Saturn also involved, problems are often invented out of insecurity. The last time this transit occurred, I felt utterly worthless and doubted myself at every turn. Don’t put yourself through that head trip!
Libra asks us to compromise and remain true to our principles. Don’t give away your power. Balance your mind with Libra Yoga. In meditation, focus on the heart chakra. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
Thanks for all the great information. Love your perspective on it.
