Last Quarter Moon in Virgo ☾ Dec 4, 2023

The Waning Last Quarter Moon rises at midnight, peaks at dawn, and sets at noon all over the world. Here the earthy moon in Virgo squares the fiery sun in Sagittarius. This quarter moon also marks the first day of Venus in Scorpio this year. Earth & water working in tandem <3
Last quarter moons are turning points or crossroads, clearing the way for the new moon / new lunar cycle. This phase prepares us for the New Moon in Sagittarius on Dec 12.
Both Virgo and Sag belong to the mutable modality. To be mutable is to be adaptable, changeable, and flexible. People with lots of mutable energy in their charts are lifelong learners who love to move and speak quickly, travel the world, work & play nonstop, take lots of classes, etc. Their spirit is buoyant and free and restless.
Mutable archetypes aspire to do everything at once. Sagittarius in particular is insatiable. He eagerly explores the great beyond, projecting far far into the future. He struggles to be here in the present. The centaur is a seeker, a gamer, a hunter. He is a creature of optimism with a carefree heart and open mind. Wherever he goes, expansion follows. Flaming flowers burst from his freshly fallen footsteps.
Virgo is the one earth sign in the zodiac who thrives in (and more than occasionally creates) chaos. And yet, when she wants to be, this archetype is productive, devoted, and diligent.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, hyperactive messenger god of the solar system. Sagittarius really needs Virgo as an earthen anchor. Without Virgo, the mutability of Sagittarius is erratic and ungrounded. Virgo ensures that Sagittarius remains realistic and practical as he flies at top speed through starry corridors, barely pausing to breathe.
However, whenever Virgo blesses us with her presence, there is always the possibility that we suddenly feel overwhelmed by our overwhelming lives. Virgo herself can be overwhelming, but it’s also true that she has such a keen (*perfectionist*) eye for what works or doesn’t in her surroundings that she tends to fixate on improving anything and everything around her.
If you’re prone to anxiety, it’s important to practice self-care and break tasks down into small steps, especially at this Virgo juncture but also in life in general. Take care of the basics, like getting enough food and sleep. If you’re busy working, remember to take breaks. Start the day with deep breathing and exercise.
Virgo is all about health, wellness, and service. It is wonderful to be of service, but this first means servicing ourselves. This is especially prescient because this moon phase squares not just the sun in Sagittarius, but also Mars in Sagittarius as well. This puts pressure on the body-mind-immune system and leaves us feeling easily frustrated or energetically depleted. Best course of action: take it slow, manage expectations, don’t rush anything.
Notes from last year: light, floating feeling inside; excellent energy flow; good friends and nourishment; fun times and dancing
Virgo rules the nervous system and digestive system. This constellation is associated with the vata dosha of Ayurvedic medicine. In meditation, focus on the throat chakra. Calm your nervous system with Virgo Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
