Last quarter moons are turning points or crossroads, clearing the way for the new moon / new lunar cycle. This phase prepares us for the New Moon in Sagittarius on Nov 30.

Both Virgo and Sag belong to the mutable modality. To be mutable is to be adaptable, changeable, and flexible. People with mostly mutable energy are lifelong learners who move and speak quickly. Their spirit is buoyant and free and restless, always in motion.

Mutable archetypes aspire to do everything at once. Sagittarius in particular is insatiable. He eagerly projects far, far into the future. He struggles to be here in the present. The centaur is a seeker, a gamer, a hunter. He is a creature of optimism with a carefree heart and open mind. Wherever he goes, expansion follows. Flaming flowers burst from his freshly fallen footsteps.

Virgo is the one earth sign in the zodiac who thrives in (and more than occasionally creates) chaos. And yet, when she wants to be, this archetype is productive, devoted, and diligent.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury, hyperactive messenger god of the solar system. Virgo is all about health and service. Sagittarius needs Virgo as an earthen anchor. Without Virgo, the mutability of Sagittarius is erratic and ungrounded. Virgo ensures that Sagittarius remains realistic and practical as he flies through starry corridors, barely pausing to breathe.

Whenever Virgo blesses us with her presence, there is always the possibility that we suddenly feel overwhelmed by our overwhelming lives. Virgo has such a keen (*perfectionist*) eye for what works or doesn’t in her surroundings that she tends to fixate on improving anything and everything around her.

If you’re prone to anxiety, it’s important to practice self-care and break tasks down into small steps. Take care of the basics, like getting enough food and sleep. If you’re busy working, remember to take breaks. Start the day with deep breathing and exercise.

Heads up: this moon phase will oppose Saturn in Pisces, putting major pressure on the psyche. Saturn makes us worry about how we compare in society, as well as our longterm plans for the future. If you’ve ever met a Capricorn, you know the kind of vibe I’m describing. We need to watch for the appearance of the critical inner voice, anxiety, and/or perfectionistic tendencies.
