First Quarter Moon in Capricorn ☽ Oct 21, 2023

The Libra sun squares the waxing moon in Capricorn. Moonrise at noon, peak at dusk, moonset at midnight in all time zones.
This quarter moon follows the powerful New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra. The first quarter is when we decide what we will take with us from the eclipse into the rest of the lunar cycle. First quarter phases clarify our plans. What did we get right? What needs revision? Get ready for a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus on Oct 28. This is when we will see the results of our chosen path.
Libra and Capricorn are both cardinal signs. When cardinal constellations get together, it’s time to recenter and realign. This quarter moon brings inner peace & harmony (Libra) to our work, longterm plans, and overall life structure (Capricorn).
Capricorn speaks to the systems and infrastructure which govern our lives. This quarter moon highlights where we lack needed support. We don’t need to wade through stress and more stress. We need mutual understanding. We need solid ground. We need common sense. On the verge of burnout, on the edge of total exhaustion, we seek balance at last, in work and in life. Capricorn helps us ground down and sort through our thoughts.
With the Sun in Libra, it’s all about the people involved. It’s about respect and understanding. This moon phase is a cold, hard look at the way we interact with one another. You will find yourself working and/or planning with other people at this quarter moon, somewhere somehow. No matter what, you’re bound to get wrapped up in something unpleasant. We’ve been here before. This is nothing new and yes, it’s happening again. Let’s meet in a different place, one that is neither polarizing nor vicious.
This moon phase falls on a busy day, coinciding with several other astrological events – let’s break it down:
In the morning we have the sun in Libra squaring Pluto, freshly direct in Capricorn. This is a very, very intense juncture. We need to tread extremely lightly and avoid engaging with aggressive or volatile people. Depression and anger course strongly in Pluto’s domain. Do whatever you need to calm your nervous system and steer clear of all possible triggers. This is not one you want to fuck with.
The moon herself will form a very close conjunction to Pluto during the quarter moon later that night. I am choosing to see this as neither good nor bad; it is simply going to reinforce the nature of the square described directly above. It is going to intensify the intensity and add even more emotional layers to the process. Get ready for the deep & dark.
An hour later we’ll have the gift of levity with Venus in Virgo trine Jupiter Retrograde in Taurus. This influence is thoroughly light, bright, happy, & optimistic. Basically it is the exact opposite of everything described above. Not too long after, the moon moves into air sign Aquarius and then lastly, Mercury transitions from Libra to Scorpio just before midnight. Woooooof!
Notes from this quarter moon last year: return to balance; cleaning & organizing; and yet still enormous stress factors; interpersonal discord; anxiety first thing in the morning about work/school; trying my best to take care of myself and recharge as much as possible
