The summer solstice demarcates Cancer season each year. This year the solstice coincides with a new moon solar eclipse in Cancer! The eclipse will be annular, covering the sunâs center, resulting in a vivid âring of fireâ around the moon. This fiery ring will only be fully visible to viewers at the border of Nepal, India, and China. Many more people in central Africa, the Middle East, and central Asia will see a partial eclipse.
Eclipses never come alone. A solar eclipse always arrives two weeks before or after a lunar eclipse. Two weeks before this solar eclipse we have a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, and two weeks after this Cancerian eclipse, we have a full moon lunar eclipse in Capricorn.
Cancer is ruled by the moon, so Luna is âat homeâ for this phase. Every day the moon rises at a different time, with a different shape and color. The crab is like this too, shifting constantly according to her mood. She absorbs everything, including other peopleâs vibrations. It is important to fortify our auric bubble every morning (however you like to do it) during this upcoming solar cycle.
Cancer is nostalgic, forever yearning for the sweetness of childhood. During Cancer season, you are invited to take a walk down memory lane and revisit your roots. Home and family clarify like a compass. Cancer needs her family, or friends who feel like family. She is the constellation of motherhood, tending to the next generation.
The crab is a slow-moving creature. In Ayurveda, Cancer is best represented by the watery kapha dosha. Kapha individuals need more sleep than the average person. They are generally soft, gentle, dreamy, and sentimental. There are free, legitimate tests you can take online to determine your dosha. Search for âdosha testâ or âprakriti test.â I highly recommend finding out your dosha â this is a HUGE help in deciding which foods are best for you.
Another yogic concept I associate with Cancer is samana, which represents physical/mental/emotional forces spiraling inward. This force emanates from the solar plexus and travels through the digestive tract. Samana translates as âmiddle forceâ because it lies in the center of the body, and also because it integrates all other forces in the body. Samana governs agni, or âdigestive fire.â Other physiological processes ruled by samana include absorption and assimilation of nutrients, intestinal consolidation, metabolism, homeostasis and emotional discernment. To keep samana strong and healthy, try twisting and folding poses to constrict the visceral organs and lower abdomen. Poses performed on the stomach also help spread samana throughout the body.
See sun and moon together. Incubate fire and water, fan their alchemical destiny. See the moon swallow the sun whole, see the wild woman reclaim her throne. Welcome this vision of the new earth. A flood is rising, and though it threatens to wash us away, we will ride it out. The moon comes thrashing and moaning in tidal waves of love. We fall inside of her and rise reborn with the certainty that whatever comes next is better, it has to be. Itâs time to be strong in our hearts. Welcome this rain, steadfast and unyielding, kissing seeds buried in soul soil.
Cancer rules the stomach, digestive system, pancreas, womb, breasts, sternum, and lower ribs. Cancer Yoga not only opens the heart and awakens your divine feminine power, but can also alleviate indigestion. In meditation, focus on the heart chakra. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
Mercury Retrograde in Cancer will be happening by the time this solstice/eclipse magic comes around. Mark June 30 on your calendar â this is when the sun will be conjunct Mercury Rx. Itâs the best day to do things that are normally taboo during Mercury Retrograde, like sign a document or make a big purchase.
Lots of activity happening in the last 10 days of Cancer season, starting with a trine to Neptune Retrograde in Pisces on July 12 – this is also the quarter moon in Aries and last day of Mercury Retrograde! Sun trine Neptune brings us together for creative projects, dream work, and collective memory gazing. On July 14, the sun opposes Jupiter Retrograde in Capricorn – a sleepy, heavy influence. The following day, the sun then opposes Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn. This is an other incredibly heavy, draining influence. Lastly on the second new moon in Cancer of July 20, the sun opposes Saturn Retrograde in Capricorn. A lot of fear comes up with this opposition – we may try to back out of something last minute because we fear it wonât go according to plan. And yes – because this first new moon comes so close to the beginning of the solar cycle, we will have a *second* new moon in Cancer on July 20! Get ready for more!
