Every month the moon spins into the same constellation as the sun. This lunar-solar conjunction is what we call a new moon. On Mar 13, the moon and sun spiral together in diaphanous Pisces, the last sign in the zodiac. It’s time to release, let go, and prepare for new beginnings with the imminent Spring Equinox.
Pisces lies at the end of each journey, circling mysteriously. She is an amalgamation of all that has come before, like a rainbow chameleon, shifting into whichever shape or person she pleases. Pisces empathizes with everyone because she is everyone. She feels all because she is all. For better or worse, Pisces flows where the collective tide takes her.
Radiating from this new moon is the unmistakable vibration of surrender – surrender to fate – surrender to what must be. We are restless, lost, confused, unsure of where to go, what to do. In this dark night of the soul we turn and turn but cannot find our way out. Pisces season is perhaps the most difficult of them all, yet it never fails to be deeply cathartic. Pisces represents all that we ignore, deny, or suppress. I encourage you to keep a dream journal at this new moon. Pisces rules sleep, trance, hypnosis, and other altered states of consciousness. Music, dance, and psychedelics are other favorites of Pisces.
Because Pisces is so sensitive and spiritually inclined, the fish often shy away from mundane, terrestrial duties. To her they aren’t real – a waste of time. She lies to herself often. She just wants to dance and party and pick flowers in a shimmering psychedelic field all day. Some Pisces types are messy, unreliable, or spacey. For those Pisces who have not yet embraced their spirituality, their anxiety may be channeled into perfectionism or compulsive, controlling behavior. Wise fish find a balance between the material world and etheric dimensions.
There will be a total of four planets in Pisces on the day of this new moon (Sun, Moon, Venus, and Neptune). Great news: all of these planets will be within just four degrees of one another, with Neptune slightly closer to the sun/moon conjunction than Venus. This is a wonderful influence for all things Piscean: music, dance, creativity, spirituality, emotional release, fantasy, hope, dreams, sleep, and affirmation of our most positive beliefs.
New moons make us feel unusually tired, and this is especially true with Pisces. This is a new moon of blissful emptiness. Pisces coasts from moment to moment on flying fish wings of intuition, so don’t worry about how to do the thing, or where or when. Just keep your water-bubble protected. To boost your creativity, focus on the sacral chakra in meditation. Recharge your mind, body, and soul with Pisces Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
